The joint statement issued by India and the United States urging Pakistan to clamp down on cross-border terror was a big diplomatic success for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The United States and India are united in our efforts to combat international terrorism and our firm rejection of violent extremism in any form. Both President Biden and Prime Minister Modi “reiterated the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups, including Al-Qa’ida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen,” according to the joint statement.

They asked on Pakistan to take urgent measures to prevent terrorists from using territory they control for attacks, and they denounced both cross-border terrorism and the use of terrorist proxies. They demanded that those responsible for the 26/11 assaults in Mumbai and Pathankot be held accountable.

The two heads of state reiterated the necessity of working together to address the growing worldwide use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, and ICTs for terrorist objectives.

In a joint statement, the two governments “welcomed” one another’s efforts to combat terrorism funding and money laundering through counterterrorism designations and homeland security cooperation, including intelligence sharing and law enforcement cooperation.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a stable, secure, and peaceful Afghanistan. They spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and decided it was still important to deliver emergency aid to the people there.

Afghan land must never be used to threaten or attack any nation, house or train terrorists, or plan or fund terrorist activities, as mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 2593, which the leaders asked the Taliban to comply by. The statement read, “The leaders committed to continuing close consultations on the situation in Afghanistan, emphasised the importance of the formation of an inclusive political structure, and urged the Taliban to respect the human rights of all Afghans, including women and girls, and to respect the freedom of movement.”
