The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kashmir Valley still doesn’t have a leader because Lt. General, Dr. Anup Banerji, a top doctor who left from the army, didn’t take up his position as the institute’s first executive director.

Banerji, who had been the director general of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) before he retired, was named the first executive director of the AIIMS, Awantipora, in June 2022.

But Banerji didn’t join as executive director of AIIMS, Awantipora, and reports said that the prized job was still open.

Since the job was open, the Government of India started the process of choosing a new executive director for AIIMS all over again in February of this year.

The Indian government put out an ad on February 28, 2023, to find someone to fill the position of executive director, who is also the Institute’s chief executive officer, at AIIMS Awantipora, AIIMS Raipur, and AIIMS Nagpur.

According to the rules for these roles, the Government of India will now make a short list of people who are qualified for these jobs. “Screening of applications will be done based on the details given in the proforma. “Only the candidates who made the short list will be called in for an interview,” government papers say.

The interview will be done by a group made up of representatives from different government ministries.

J-K LG Manoj Sinha said in November 2022 that AIIMS Awantipora would open the following year.
