An ‘illegal’ retail mall under construction in Handwara was razed on Tuesday, according to government sources. The mall had been built inside the municipality itself.

The Municipal Committee of Handwara allegedly dismantled a retail centre under construction on the property with Khasra numbers 1464, 65, 66, 67, and 71 after residents raised concerns about the complex’s suspected unlawful construction inside the Municipal borders.

The Municipal Committee “swung into action and razed the structure to ground today” because of “the concern expressed by people,” they claimed.
According to the sources, the relevant Municipal Committee has issued a severe warning to the public not to engage in any kind of construction without first obtaining authorization from the appropriate agencies. (GNS)
