Rajouri, May 27: Condemning the opposition for skipping the opening of the new Parliament building, Democratic Progressive Azad Party president Ghulam Nabi Azad praised the government for completing the project in record time on Saturday.

Ghulam Nabi Azad told ANI, “If I had been in Delhi, I would have definitely attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building.” This choice is quite acceptable to me. Instead of boycotting the inauguration, the opposition should have applauded the administration. This administration has done what they were unable to accomplish. I strongly oppose the opposition boycotting this.” He described the decision as “much needed,” adding that he, too, had wished for a new Parliament building during his term as Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

“We saw this dream 23 years ago. I was the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs at the time. I discussed it with Shivraj Patil and former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao. We had even created a map, but the task could not be completed. So, if a new Parliament building has been built today, especially one of this size, that is extremely excellent’, he remarked.

“This decision was much needed,” Azad said, “because the number of MPs is about to almost double, and the old Parliament is insufficient for that.” I also commend the administration for finishing the work in record time. Parliaments are not usually built that quickly.”

The former Congress leader said that it makes little difference who inaugurates the Parliament and that the Opposition should address topics that are important to the nation.

“It makes no difference whether the Prime Minister or the President is inaugurated. Furthermore, the BJP endorsed Droupadi Murmu’s bid for President. “If the opposition had such high regard for her, why did they run a candidate against her?” Azad questioned.

“The opposition is raising irrelevant issues,” he continued. There are several legitimate problems, but the opposition is not focusing on them. Instead, the opposition should focus on problems that directly impact the people. It makes no difference to the people who inaugurates the Parliament.”

Tomorrow, May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the new parliament building to the country. The inauguration will be conducted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in addition to the Prime Minister.
