Wednesday, May 17th, Budgam’s Power Development Department confirmed that the guy who died from electrocution the night before was not an employee.
Notably, Rafiq Ahmed Dar, son of Bashir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Brinjan, died yesterday evening after suffering an electric shock while fixing an electric pole.
The dead was reportedly a part-time worker with the Power Development Department, according to locals.
Assistant Executive Engineer Charar-e-Sharif Ghulam Qadir denied the report to the news outlet Kashmir News Trust, saying that the dead was not a department employee. He said that no information on the dead could be found in the office’s files.
There is a group of persons claiming to work for the Power Development agency on a need-based basis, but the agency doesn’t really employ them. We had asked them not to risk their lives and not to squander their time and effort several times,” he said. [KNT]
