Kupwara, 8 June: Masroor Banday, chairman of the Municipal Committee in Handwara, was ousted from office on Thursday after a no-confidence resolution was passed against him.

An official confirmed to Greater Kashmir that all thirteen council members had taken part in a floor test. “Seven of the thirteen councillors voted against Masroor Banday, and that was enough to get him booted out of office by a razor-thin margin of just one vote,” he said.

Until a new Chairman is elected by the council, Bashir Ahmad Khan, the current Vice Chairman of MC Handwara, will serve as Chairman.

Last year, a vote of no confidence was also filed against him, but he won the support of a majority of lawmakers.
