Inconvenience for people is being caused by the lack of street lights along a section of road in the Gasso neighbourhood of Hazratbal, Srinagar, 3 July.

According to locals, this highway serves as the primary link between Gasso and the rest of the region. They complained that “there are problems because there are no street lights.”

This is a major thoroughfare with a high volume of vehicles and pedestrians, yet it does not have enough lighting at night. A number of years ago, officials illuminated the regions around this route, but they neglected to do so here. According to local resident Asif Ahmad, the lack of street lighting is especially problematic along Gasso-Inderhama route.

According to locals, many SMC dumpers along the road have become dog squats. They claim that inhabitants are prevented from freely moving around the region at night because dogs are out and about.

Dog gangs congregate often beside these trash cans. It’s more dangerous when the streets are dark. Another local said, “We urge the authorities to provide street lighting so that we can walk safely at night.”
