In Srinagar, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta unveiled the government’s new efforts to streamline its many online services by partnering with Umang and Digilocker.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several officers and officials, including the Commissioner Secretary for GAD, the Commissioner Secretary for IT, the Secretary for Health, and many more.

The Chief Secretary reflected on the UT’s recent digital transformation, noting that it had launched the “Digital Jammu & Kashmir” programme in mission mode to empower its citizens through the provision of quality service delivery to them even in the comfort of their own homes.

Dr Mehta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ‘Zero Tolerance for Corruption’ and the delivery of all G2C services directly to citizens’ homes, eliminating the need for citizens to go to and wait in queue for such services. He emphasised the need of having all of the available services in one convenient location.

Dr. Mehta referred to these programmes as “true empowerment of general public” since they would provide people with unrestricted, around-the-clock access to services from anywhere in the world. He urged the Department to keep moving forward with plans to integrate all services with these platforms. To ensure the public received high-quality services in a timely manner, he pushed that they be integrated with RAS and Auto-appeal.

Dr. Mehta said that UMANG is planned to serve as a master application that unifies significant government services from different sectors on the Mobile Platform, thereby turning mobile devices into mobile workplaces.

Users are given a centralised location from which to obtain legitimate government services through e-Government Services, made available via this app. J&K residents may now access 31 state services, as well as 11 federal ones (including AICTE, BBPS, Mera Ration, and Vahan).

The Power Development Department’s six offerings—New Connection, Change of Name, Change of ownership, Change of Category, and Track Status—have all been included into the Umang App.

DigiLocker is an online platform that has been integrated with 12 services provided by several Departments. The Housing and Urban Development Department offers eight different services. These include the Registration Certificate of Shops and Commercial Establishments, the Municipal Limit Certificate, Trade Fair Permission, Mobile Tower Permission, Street Vendor Licence, Dairy Licence, Road Cutting permission, and Pet Dog Registration Certificate.

The stated goal of these IT projects is “to leverage the power of digital and emerging technologies for the welfare of the masses, thereby empowering the citizens,” which was dubbed the “vision of Digital Jammu and Kashmir.”
