Kupwara, 19 May: The Indian Army organised the Drugmulla Premier League (DPL)-2023 at Anderhama Cricket Ground as part of continuous attempts to positively channel the youth of Kashmir. A total of 16 teams from Drugmulla Block competed in the competition, which began on May 10th, 2023, with full excitement and energy.
The competition was held on a pool cum knock out system, with teams split into two pools. Starting on May 10th, two matches were played per day in the knockout round. Four teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals, from which four teams advanced to the semi-finals, which were held on May 17, 2023. Star Eleven, Andherhama, and Gymkhana Drugmulla qualified for the final after gruelling and nail-biting matches to win the title.
The much-anticipated final was played on 19 May 2023 at the Anderhama Cricket Ground between Gymkhana Drugmulla and Star 11, Anderhama cricket team, which was attended by a huge number of residents who were seen applauding their respective teams. Gymkhana Drugmulla won by 16 runs in a nail-biting finish.
The winners and runners-up received monetary prizes, trophies, and individual medals. Such sporting events are good to teenagers and youngsters. The locals commended the Indian Army’s efforts as well as the hard work and passion of all players.
