Kupwara, June 4: At least five workmen were wounded when an under-construction commercial complex collapsed on Sunday afternoon in Hirri Payeen hamlet of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to an official, the incident happened as workmen were working laying a slab on the bottom level of the building, when a large section of the slab fell, injuring five workers.

Following the tragedy, he said, villagers, police, and the army raced to the scene and initiated a rescue mission to rule out any possibility.

“Labourers who were injured in the incident were immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara, from where one labourer who had received a head injury was referred to GMC Baramulla for specialised treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kupwara Station House Officer (SHO) verified the occurrence. “All those injured in the incident were locals,” he continued.

Ghulam Hassan (40), Imran Ahmad (18), son of Shair Khan, Zubair Ahmad (22) son of Noor Alam, and Rovail Ahmad (18) son of Abdul Rashid are all Kalaroose locals, while one Reyaz Ahmad son of Saif U Din Wani is from Gulgam.
