Mutton without offal will sell for Rs 650, while mutton with offal will sell for Rs 600, according to a statement released by the Jammu and Kashmir Mutton Dealers Union on Tuesday.

Hilal Ahmed, general secretary of the All Jammu and Kashmir Butchers Union, said the federal government’s notice will help stabilise mutton prices.

A few months back, we also discussed this matter with the Division Commissioner of Kashmir. We complained that the Rs 600 per kilogramme that Delhi was charging us for mutton was too much. We, along with others, purchase meat from them, and we would work to keep costs as low as possible,” he added, noting that the going pricing for a kilogramme of mutton is now Rs 650 without offal and Rs 600 with offal.
Furthermore, he urged the public to not buy from vendors whose mutton prices were greater than those listed in the rate list.

Finally, a CAPD official said that the department has been instructed to temporarily refrain from intervening in the market pricing of mutton and other animal products.

In a directive issued last week, the government was told to stop controlling the pricing of cattle products by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. The government-set price of mutton was Rs 535 per kilogramme before the announcement.
