14 June, Srinagar: The government of Jammu and Kashmir has requested that law enforcement authorities recognise digital DLs and RCs issued using the DigiLocker and m-parivahan smartphone applications.

According to a letter quoted by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the transport commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir has requested that law enforcement officials recognise digital versions of citizen driving licences and vehicle registration certificates stored in DigiLocker.

According to the letter, the Digilocker and m-Parivahan mobile applications of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India are legally recognised documents on par with the original papers under the terms of the Information Technology Act 2000.

According to the letter, concerns continue to come in about how enforcement agencies are ignoring these papers and instead demanding physical copies.

The traffic department inspector general in Jammu and Kashmir has received a letter from the transportation commissioner.

It said, “In this context, it is requested to issue order or instructions in your organisation directing all the concerned to honour Virtual Driving Licence (DL) & Registration Certificate (RC) etc on Digilocker & m-Parivahan Mobile Apps.”
