Ramban:  Landslides and stone throwing on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway’s Mehar-Cafeteria segment on Thursday caused vehicular traffic delays on both sides of the highway for many hours. Officials said that traffic was halted for many hours on Thursday morning near Ramban due to a landslip and gunfire on the roadway near the Mehar Cafeteria.
They reported that the route was closed at about midnight on Wednesday due to a landslide and fire.
Highway officials reported that the road was closed for a total of 13 hours and 24 minutes.
The highway was reportedly closed for a total of 13 hours and 4 minutes due to stone throwing on Mehar-Cafeteria Morh and the shutdown of the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel.
Authorities said that poor traffic flow persisted owing to single-lane sections in Dalwass and elsewhere.
The rubble and stones that had gathered on the roadway after the avalanche that occurred early Thursday morning have been removed, according to officials.
According to reports, pedestrian movement resumed on a case-by-case basis despite ongoing stone-pelting.
While directing traffic near Cafeteria Morh, SSP Traffic National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baksotra was overheard saying, “Despite the intermittent triggering of debris and shooting stones, we are clearing the traffic in a one-by-one mode with caution.”
He said stones and other debris had suddenly slid onto this stretch of road, causing delays.
“Regular traffic is being redirected,” Baksotra said.
Commuters and drivers reported being delayed at many points between Nashri and Ramban throughout the day.
They said, “Due to traffic, we were unable to move from Nashri, Dhalwass Peera, Karool Ramban, or anywhere else.”
