Hundreds of people visit Srinagar's Polo field every week for activities like rugby and yogasana

May 31st, Srinagar: The Sports Council of J&K, continuing its efforts to bring sporting events to every part of the state, held a number of competitions throughout the state’s various sports complexes on Wednesday.
The day began with a Yogasana sporting event at Srinagar’s Pologround multisport facility. The J&K Sports Council and the Directorate of Ayush J&K put on the event to get the word out about the merits of yoga and living a healthy lifestyle in general. Yoga was practised during the event by individuals of all ages and walks of life, from college freshmen to retirees. The specialists from the Directorate of Ayush instructed the attendees in the proper Yoga positions and breathing methods. In addition, the necessity of a good diet and frequent exercise was emphasised to the participants.
People of all ages were able to mingle and build friendships during the event, making it a big success. Participants enjoyed themselves and said they planned to include yoga into their everyday lives going forward.
Secretary of Youth Services and Sports Sarmad Hafeez spoke at the ceremony and praised Yoga for its many mental and physical health advantages. He also said that it is a great approach to increase well-being by decreasing stress and increasing flexibility.
The success of this event has encouraged us to plan more like it in the future, Secretary said, creating a healthier and happier community and helping to spread the benefits of this ancient sport to a wider audience.
Meanwhile, the J&K Rugby Association and the J&K Sports Council put on the 15th annual J&K UT Level Rugby Tournament. The event was held so that up-and-coming rugby players might get some exposure and help grow the sport in the area.
More than 800 people from several age ranges and genders attended the event. Srinagar County has continued to dominate the competition. Muhammad Iqbal, the venue’s in charge, applauded the players’ achievements and urged them to keep working hard and staying dedicated if they wanted to make it to the national level.
Aside from receiving prizes for their efforts, the best players in the event were also invited to compete in the next national tournament in Pune, giving them a tremendous chance to show off their abilities on a national stage.
Students from nearby schools were invited to the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Banihal for the Tug of War and Boxing Championship to showcase their athletic and sportsmanlike qualities.
The Tug of War tournament had teams from different schools tugging for a common goal, but the event also featured a number of track and field disciplines.
More than seventy female players competed in the finals of the events for nine age groups played throughout the day at Sports Stadium Kathua as part of the My Youth My Pride project.
In the 40-kilogram class, Sonakshi Devi won gold, Ishu Sumbria took silver, and Bani Preet Kour took bronze; in the 44-kilogram class, Sonakshi Devi won gold, Komal took silver, and Kashika Verma won bronze. Medalists were Sameena Akhter (gold), Ridhima Gupta (silver), and Shiya (bronze) in the women’s 48-kilogram division. Ishita Mahajan won gold, Khwaish silver, and Mansi bronze in the 52-kilogram division; Jimmo Devi took first in the 57- and 63-kilogram divisions; Yashika placed second; Manu came in third; and Mehak placed fourth in the 63-kilogram division. Gold went to Tanvi and Deapasha in the 70-kilogram division, silver to Ritika and Deenakshi, and bronze to Madhumita and Diya in the 78-kilogram division.
Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull was pleased with both the turnout and the performance of the participants, and she extended her congratulations to all of them. She was quite complimentary of the work done by the Sports Council team representing the Jammu region. She emphasised that the J&K Sports Council is dedicated to fostering the potential of young athletes all around the state, and she advised the young athletes to keep up their hard work and devotion to sports.
