On Sunday, May 21st, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi apprehended a member of the terrorist group Jasih-e-Mohammad (JeM) for his role in a terror plot case in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The arrest is part of the NIA’s assault on plots by banned terrorist groups stationed beyond the border to destabilise India via terrorist strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, according to a statement quoted by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

According to the NIA’s investigation, the accused, named in the statement as Mohd Ubaid Malik of the Kupwara area, was in frequent contact with a JeM Commander stationed in Pakistan.

The accused “was passing secret information, especially regarding movement of troops and security forces, to the Pak based Commander,” the report added.

Incriminating papers supporting the accused’s role in the promotion of terror operations in J&K were also obtained by the NIA.

The NIA suo moto registered the case (RC -05/2022/NIA/JMU) on June 21, it said.

“It has to do with plots that members of several banned terrorist organisations in league with their Pakistan-based commanders have been hatching. It entails amassing and dispersing large quantities of illegal substances, money, firearms, and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), such as sticky or magnetic explosives that may be activated remotely.

According to NIA investigations, the statement claims that IEDs and explosives are often transported by drones and are also constructed locally in order to carry out terrorist acts in J&K.

Minorities and members of the security forces have been the primary targets of these assaults. The overall goal of these conspiracies is to disrupt peace and communal harmony, engage in terrorist activities, and wage war against the Government of India, and they are being plotted both in the real world and online, using encrypted social media programmes. It said, “The case is still under investigation.”
