Jammu, May 24: Police said today that they have apprehended the primary suspect in the attack on a Congress party corporator, Rashpal Bhardwaj, on Tuesday evening.
“In connection with the incident of assault on Jammu Municipal Corporator Rashpal Bhardwaj, the alleged prime accused Anil Singh has been arrested after nightlong raids conducted by different teams of police in various suspected locations,” stated SSP Jammu, Chandan Kohli.
According to the SSP, the purported principal accused has been apprehended, and several others have been held for interrogation while additional legal actions are underway. Other suspects are being sought via raids in other places.
Yesterday evening, the Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) ward number 72 had gone to his fields and was returning on a two-wheeler when he was assaulted by numerous armed individuals in Sujalpur, Domana.
According to the authorities, they assaulted the Corporator with sharp-edged weapons and batons, seriously injuring him, and then fled. Fortunately, the Corporator was transported to the scene as soon as individuals and his family members learned of the occurrence.
He had surgery at the GMC Jammu. The gravely wounded Corporator, on the other hand, survived the assault. Following the incident, JMC Mayor Rajinder Sharma, along with all of his colleagues and family, gathered at the GMC Jammu to seek the arrest of the perpetrators.
They said that before to the incident, the victim had already alerted authorities with his complaint against the suspects, citing a danger to his life.
Last night, police conducted searches in several regions after family members revealed certain identities to them. A case has been opened in this respect at the police station in Domana, and an investigation is underway.
