Ganderbal, May 31: A 60-year-old man was killed on Wednesday after he fell over a makeshift bridge into a canal in the Kangan area of the Ganderbal district in central Kashmir.

Bashir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wani Mohalla Kangan, was reported dead by an official to Greater Kashmir after falling over a makeshift bridge into a canal. A police squad and several local volunteers raced to the scene after hearing about his injuries. SKIMS Soura received a referral to treat Wani after he had been sent to the trauma hospital in Kangan. Unfortunately, he passed away on route to the hospital from his wounds. All medical and legal procedures were completed, and the corpse was returned to the family for burial. The police are aware of the situation.

To prevent such incidents in the future, people have called for the fencing of strategic locations along power canals.

According to local volunteer Bashir Ahmad Mir, the government has failed to respond adequately to such occurrences in the past, resulting in the loss of many lives.
