12 June, Srinagar: Abdul Qayoom Wani, head of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), has called for ration depots to restock essentials like kerosene oil and food.

He issued a statement saying that rising power costs make the repair necessary.”Due to the hike in the electricity tariff, it has become unaffordable for a household living below the poverty line to bear the expenses of electricity,” he stated.

Wani said that the BPL population of the community had been driven to the brink since the government had cut off the subsidised supply of kerosene oil and other goods like rice. But now, he continued, the poor have been disregarded on all fronts as power prices have risen too much and their problems have multiplied.
