Srinagar, June 3: Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, said on Saturday that Jammu and Kashmir is expected to see major changes in the healthcare sector as initiatives to upgrade infrastructure and facilities are ongoing.

He further said that the union territory would see the creation of multiple medical colleges, a cancer hospital, and two All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) facilities. “Private medical institutions are also actively contributing to the development of the healthcare sector in J&K,” he said.

In his remarks to the media, Bhatnagar emphasised the efforts being made to improve healthcare services in the area. He emphasised that the government’s priority is to provide excellent healthcare to J&K citizens as well as specialised services in every field.

He also said that the creation of medical colleges, particularly the future cancer hospital, is anticipated to boost the academic and healthcare infrastructure. “These medical colleges will not only contribute to medical education but will also cater to the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in the UT,” he said.

He expressed hope about the future of healthcare in J&K, adding that new hospitals are in the works, with plans to build specialised services in a variety of fields. “These endeavours aim to ensure that the residents of J&K have access to comprehensive healthcare facilities that meet international standards,” he stated.
