From the Qamarwari Bridge in Srinagar, a man jumped into the Jhelum river this morning.

A person who works at the police office in question said that a man from Barthana Qamariwari jumped into the river. Officials said that as soon as the accident happened, the SDRF team and the River Police were asked to help the man.

“We also talked to his family, and the man is from the Qamarwari neighbourhood of Barthana. We are still learning more about the person, though. River Police and SDRF have people and tools on the job, and the search is still going on,” he said.

The locals, meanwhile, complained that the bridge had turned into a “suicide point.” They said that there is no fence on the bridge, even though there have been many problems there.

“This year, the bride tried to kill herself more than once. Some people are lucky enough to be saved, but most of the time, they die. “Every year, dozens of suicides are linked to the bridge, but the authorities don’t seem to care,” said a local named Zahid Ahmad.

The people who live there said that the bridge’s fence is only a few feet high, which is dangerous.

“Every day, hundreds of people, including older people, walk across this bridge. Normal people can easily fall off the bridge and die, and how can we help someone who is going to jump on purpose? “We’re asking the government to put up a fence around the bridge to save lives,” said another person in the area.
