Srinagar, 6 June: Mehooba Mufti, former chief minister and PDP president, today urged her party to become the voice of the voiceless.
According to a news release, she was speaking at the party headquarters in Srinagar during an organisation review meeting for district Srinagar. The conference was attended by the party’s senior leadership, as well as district and zone office bearers from Srinagar.
Mehbooba Mufti emphasised the need of the party being the voice of the voiceless and muzzled people of J&K. She said that the party must increase its efforts to spread its ideology and self-rule roadmap in order to get the people out of the quagmire and bring about long-term peace on the Indian subcontinent.
She stressed the need of thwarting those who attempt to change the goalposts in J&K from the people’s desire for resolving the political dilemma of Kashmir to simple elections. Mehbooba emphasised the need of focusing on people’s day-to-day difficulties at the same time. She said that youngsters play an important part in achieving the aforementioned aims. She requested that the party’s leadership work to build the party at the grassroots level.
“The party must become a force to be reckoned with, working hard and fearlessly for the people of J&K in these troubled times,” she stated. While stressing the changes brought about by the realisation of the Mufti Sahab’s vision for J&K, Party Vice President A R Veeri underlined that a semblance of peace with dignity alone opens the road for true development.
Party General Secretary G N Lone Hanjura addressed the gathering, emphasising the need of strengthening the party at the halqa level in order to reinforce the base of the party’s commitment to reject plans aimed at further distempering the people of J&K. Dr. Mirza Mehboob Beg, General Secretary of the Party, said that throughout these trying times, the PDP has emerged as the strongest and most trustworthy voice of the people of J&K in the battle for their rights and dignity.
