The meteorological service in Srinagar predicted on Thursday, June 8, that Jammu and Kashmir will have mostly dry weather with a decreased chance of evening showers or thunderstorms till June 12.

An official from the meteorological department was quoted by GNS as saying, “Mainly dry weather is expected, but a brief spell of shower/thunderstorm mainly towards evening can’t be ruled out,” with the probability being low (10-20%). He predicted that temperatures would rise gradually, and warmer weather would soon arrive.

In terms of temperature, he said that Srinagar had a low of 11.2°C, down from 12.4°C the night before, and 2.2°C lower than average for the summer capital.

He reported a drop in temperature from 11.2 to 10.2 degrees Celsius at Qazigund, the entrance to Kashmir, which was 1.8 degrees Celsius lower than average.

He said that the temperature at Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag region of south Kashmir, dropped to 5 degrees Celsius from 6 degrees the night before, marking a 2.0 degree drop from the average.

According to him, the mercury dropped to 10.4 degrees Celsius in Kupwara town last night, down from 11.2 degrees the night before, and 1.3 degrees below typical for the north Kashmir region.

The temperature in Kokernag dropped to 9.9 degrees Fahrenheit (from 8.4 degrees Fahrenheit the night before), which is 3.0 degrees below average for the area.

He said that the temperature at Gulmarg, a popular ski destination in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, dropped to 5.6 degrees Fahrenheit that night, down from 6.0 degrees the night before and 2.4 degrees below average.

The temperature in J&K’s winter capital of Jammu dropped to 21.7 degrees Fahrenheit (-4.0 degrees Celsius) from 23 degrees Fahrenheit the night before.Low temperatures were seen at Banihal (11.5 degrees Celsius), Batote (13.1 degrees Celsius), Katra (19.6 degrees Celsius), and Bhaderwah (8.8 degrees Celsius).
