Today, June 16th, 2018: From June 20-25, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to the United States and Egypt for official purposes.

The Vice President and First Lady of the United States, Joe Biden and Jill Biden, extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister’s tour will kick up on June 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where he will preside over festivities commemorating International Day of Yoga.

The two leaders will continue their high-level engagement in Washington, D.C., where the prime minister will be given a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) has announced that the same evening, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden would host a State Dinner in honour of the Prime Minister.

On June 22, Prime Minister Modi will address a Joint Sitting of the US Congress at the request of US Congressional Leaders, including Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and Speaker of the Senate Charles Schumer.

State Secretary Antony Bilnken and US Vice President Kamala Harris will host a luncheon for the prime minister on June 23.

In addition to his official duties, the Prime Minister will participate in a series of carefully planned meetings with influential businesspeople, academics, and other members of society. Members of the Indian diaspora will also be on his itinerary.

The Prime Minister will next spend June 24 and 25 in Cairo, Egypt, for a state visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, invited the prime minister to visit Egypt as the “Chief Guest” for India’s Republic Day festivities in January 2023. According to the MEA statement, this would be PM Modi’s first trip to Egypt.

In addition to meeting with President Sisi, the Prime Minister will meet with other Egyptian government officials, notable Egyptians, and members of the Indian community in Egypt.

Trade and commercial relations between India and Egypt date back centuries, and the two countries’ peoples have a profound cultural bond.

This ‘Strategic Partnership’ was agreed upon during President Sisi’s official visit in January of 2023.
