Srinagar, June 26: On Monday, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and a member of parliament from Srinagar, and Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, warned that the growing problem of drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir was a threat and that the battle against drug misuse should not be given up under any circumstances.

The two individuals said, on the occasion of the International Day against Drug misuse and Illicit Trafficking, that substance misuse and drug addiction had developed into one of the most significant dangers facing our next generation.

“Unfortunately, Jammu and Kashmir is still struggling to combat the threat posed by substance misuse and the usage of illicit drugs. It is concerning to hear reports that drug usage is so prevalent among young people in Kashmir, especially among children who are still in school. They warned that if significant action was not taken to combat the problem, “we are going to lose an entire new generation to this hazard.”

“Failing to act against the drug mafia and identifying the spots where these addicts huddle up; administration has also failed miserably to come up with more de-addiction centers, counselling centers to help control such delinquency.”
