According to News18, the Pakistani government is contemplating outlawing former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political party, the PTI.
He did, however, state that if the administration does decide to prohibit the previous governing party, the subject would be brought to parliament for approval.
The action comes amid political unrest in the nation after Khan’s arrest on corruption allegations on May 9 and subsequent release on bail on court orders.
Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has accused the current administration and state institutions of fabricating corruption accusations.
“It is under consideration to ban PTI,” Asif told reporters. “The PTI has attacked the state’s very foundation, which has never happened before.” It will not be permitted.”
The arrest of the former Prime Minister provoked significant demonstrations throughout the nation. Arson and vandalism were perpetrated against army installations and governmental structures.
According to PTI lawyer Ali Zafar, even if such a ruling is taken, the Supreme Court (SC) would likely declare it “null and void within a day” since a political party cannot be outlawed.
