PIB Srinagar hosts a media workshop called 'Vartalap' in Bandipora

Bandipora: To create a direct interface between the government and journalists working at the district and sub-district levels across Kashmir division, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India organised a media workshop dubbed ‘Vartalap’ in the district of Bandipora on Thursday.

According to an official release published here, the workshop’s principal guest was Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora Owais Ahmad, while the guest of honour was Additional Director General, PIB Srinagar and Chandigarh Rajinder Chaudhry.

In his address to the audience, Ahmad praised PIB for conducting the workshop in Bandipora.

He said that journalists were contributing to society by serving as the administration’s eyes and ears.

According to Ahmad, the introduction of social media has been both a benefit and a curse since disinformation can spread quickly and journalists can assist maintain checks and balances on the same.

He urged the media to submit comments to the government in order to improve governance.

Ahmad said that the media has significant influence, and that those in the media must utilise that authority carefully and cautiously to avoid abuse.

He said that the relationship between the government and the media should be honest since it is ultimately the public that benefits from it.
