Jammu and Kashmir police said on Sunday that the claims of lathi charges against Amarnath Yatris were false and concocted.

According to a police official, a video circulating on social media alleges that police used lathicharge against yatris.

However, he claims that the report is completely fake and without foundation.

“According to the traffic advisory that has already been issued and shared in the public domain, no yatri or tourist vehicle shall be allowed to move after the cut off time (i.e. when ROP is withdrawn) and will be accommodated in the nearest designated safe location for the safety and security of the tourists and yatris,” police said.

According to police, when the cut-off was applied, some individuals stopped the national highway and refused to let them drive any farther.

“Meanwhile, they stopped one ambulance carrying a critical patient.” They were asked to cooperate and allow the ambulance to arrive. Given the circumstances, officers cleared the way for an ambulance and saved the patient’s life,” police added.

According to the spokesperson, certain individuals with vested interests are attempting to tarnish the image of police by spreading false and fraudulent information. Such news outlets will face legal consequences.
