On Thursday, landslides and stone throwing stopped traffic on the Mehar-Cafeteria section of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Ramban for many hours.

Officials said that traffic on the highway near Ramban was halted for many hours on Thursday morning owing to a landslip and subsequent gunfire on the Mehar Cafeteria portion of the road.

They reported that the route was closed at about midnight on Wednesday due to a landslide and firing stones.

Highway officials reported that the road was closed for a total of 13 hours and 24 minutes.

They said that stone throwing on Mehar-Cafeteria Morh kept the highway closed for 10 hours and 24 minutes, and that the closing of the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel added another 3 hours and 4 minutes to the delay.

Authorities have reported that single-lane sections of road in Dalwass and elsewhere have kept traffic moving at a snail’s pace.

The rubble and stones that had gathered on the roadway after the avalanche that occurred early Thursday morning have been removed, according to officials.

They reported that traffic had resumed on an individual basis despite the ongoing stone throwing.

Rohit Baksotra, SSP Traffic National Highway, Ramban, was seen directing traffic near Cafeteria Morh. He said, “Despite the intermittent triggering of debris and shooting stones we are clearing the traffic in a one-by-one mode with caution.”

He said stones and other debris had suddenly slid onto this stretch of road, causing delays.
Baksotra said, “Normal traffic is being cleared.”
Commuters and drivers reported being delayed at many points between Nashri and Ramban throughout the day.

It was said that traffic kept them from moving beyond Nashri, Dhalwass Peera, Karool Ramban, and other locations.
