Protests erupt in Kathua in the aftermath of a ‘unannounced’ anti-encroachment campaign

On Friday, protests were staged during an anti-encroachment sweep in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.

According to reports, demonstrations erupted during an anti-encroachment campaign at Shaheedi Chowk, where officials were demolishing a commercial structure.

The protestors claim that the drive started at 5 a.m. without prior warning to the store owner. The Shaheedi Chowk route was closed on both sides by large police contingents.

The owners of the buildings gathered at the site after learning about the situation, and more individuals gradually joined the demonstration against the anti-encroachment effort. During the demonstrations, police removed a senior official out of the area for his or her own safety.
