Locals had demanded that the booze store be shuttered immediately, thus all establishments in town were closed.

“It will be a source of disobedience and moral corruption.” The government pretends to be harsh on drug dealers while allowing wine stores to operate freely. “This duality is obvious,” a local stated.

Another neighbourhood citizen argued that the establishment of a liquor store will be detrimental to the young.

“It’s critical to keep the youth away from drugs and spirits rather than encouraging them to buy and consume alcohol with government permission,” he said.

Protests against the opening of booze stores have also occurred in several places of the Kashmir Valley in the past. Recently, Muslims, Sikhs, and Pandits protested the same problem in Uri, north Kashmir, prompting the state to shut the booze business. (KNT)
