Sampath Prakash, a notable labour union leader, died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was 85.

Prakash, according to his son Lennin Kundo, was eating lunch when he became unconscious.

He was immediately sent to the hospital, where the doctor proclaimed him dead on arrival, according to Kundo.

“He had been in Srinagar for the last four months and passed away here,” he said. “We have scheduled his cremation for tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Karanagar, Srinagar, and I am on my way from Jammu.”

Meanwhile, Soura, a senior SKIMS official, said that the old trade union leader was brought dead to the hospital and his corpse is being stored in the mortuary.

The news of Prakash’s death sent shockwaves across the community, leaving colleagues and friends saddened.

Notably, Sampath Prakash was also recognised for his controversial views and passionate speech regarding “Khuftan Fakirs” and other well-known celebrities from the 1990s.

Meanwhile, notable Jammu and Kashmir politicians, including Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omer Abdullah, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, and others, expressed their condolences.
