An eight-year-old girl went missing on Monday from the Noorbagh neighbourhood of Srinagar, and her family and relatives have mounted a demonstration demanding to know what happened to her, saying that she was abducted by their “three-day old” non-local daughter-in-law.
After residing with the family for just three days after her marriage, the non-local daughter-in-law was accused by family members of kidnapping the family’s eight-year-old child.
The girl’s father said, “My brother married a foreign woman last week, and three days later she left the house and took away my daughter.”
According to one of the family members, the Nikah ceremony took place last Thursday at a small gathering of immediate family. “Yesterday, we learned to our dismay that the bride and my niece had run away.
The family members said that they had gone to the local police station and reported the incident.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said they had opened an abduction inquiry but would not provide any other information. (KNO)
