Srinagar, 22 May: The Faculty of Forestry hosted a one-day event in honour of International Biodiversity Day today.

Benhama-Watlar, Ganderbal, SKUAST-K, and the District Legal Services Authority District Ganderbal are involved in this project together. Division of Forest Biology Head Professor Parvez Ahmad Khan presided over the event. Scientists Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani (HOD, SBS), Dr. Khursheed (HOD, WLS), Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani (HOD, WLS), and Prof. Akhlaq A Wani (HOD, FRM) co-chaired the session and served on the jury.

Advocate Abid and Ms. Dilafroz are both members of the legal services department. In his opening remarks, Professor Khan underscored the need of protecting the world’s dwindling biodiversity in the face of human activity.

Legal advisor Abid shed light on the many statutes and legislation now in place to safeguard our natural resources. Faculty and students from neighbouring schools competed in a debating tournament.

The top three finishers each received a certificate for their efforts. Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani, one of the event’s organisers, gave the vote of gratitude. Assistant Professor at FBT Dr. Sabeena Nabi was the show’s host. The second session was a planting drive, and the chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), R. Dubey, was the guest of honour.

Police officers including Station House Officer (SHO) Lar Gulzar Ahmad took part in the initiative. Students, faculty, and even some scientists including Dr. Khursheed Sofi, Dr. Iqbal, Dr. Tahir, Dr. Maqbool, Dr. Pala, Dr. Dutt, Dr. Amarjeet, Prof. Aijaz ul Islam, and Dr. Malik helped Prof. Khan plant a bunch of trees on the Girls Hostel grounds.
