Ramban: Road repair work at several spots between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels in the Ramban area on Wednesday interrupted traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for many hours.

According to reports from traffic officials, the roadway was closed for a total of 8 hours and 4 minutes during the course of the previous 24 hours, from 5 p.m. on Wednesday until now.

The Banihal-Qazigund tunnel was closed for 3 hours and 5 minutes, the Chenani-Nashri tunnel was closed for 2 hours and 42 minutes, and a section of roadway near Ramban was macadamized for 2 hours and 17 minutes, according to the report.

Authorities said that traffic was sluggish at several points between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels because nine Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) broke down and nomads had to transport their cattle on foot.

Hundreds of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) use the Nashri-Banihal segment of the route each day, according to the Ramban officers who oversee traffic management.

According to them, high occupancy vehicles (HMVs) travelling between Nashri-Banihal and Kashmir moved quite slowly.

According to Mohita Sharma, the Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police on the National Highway in Ramban, the road was blocked for maintenance and repairs from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Department has issued a new advisory for Thursday, saying that, pending favourable weather and road conditions, LMVs will be permitted to travel on both sides of the highway, and HMVs will be permitted to travel from Qazigund, Kashmir, towards Jammu.
