When Ahmad and three other youngsters slipped into a sewer, they were being followed by stray dogs and had to be rescued quickly by a passing stranger.

Ahmad fought for his life for 13 days at the Children’s Hospital in Bemina, but ultimately lost.

The boy’s death was verified by the Children’s Hospital Srinagar’s medical superintendent, who cited drowning, respiratory failure, and shock as the causes of the boy’s death.

“He was admitted on May 28 to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), where he was placed on ventilator support and continuously monitored until his death this evening,” he added.

A tweet from Dr. Muhammad Salim Khan, Professor & HOD Community Medicine GMC Srinagar, said, “the 7-year-old child was chased by a pack of dogs in Batmaloo Srinagar, after which he had fallen in a drain and was brain dead with no chances of survival.”

The administration of Ahmad’s school, Dubai Grand International School in Srinagar’s HMT neighbourhood, verified that he was a sixth-grade student there and offered condolences to his family.

The young man had been hospitalised for a number of days prior to his death. Parvez Ahmad, the principal of the school, expressed his dismay at the news of his death. “We are in shock to hear the news of his demise.
