External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made it clear on Wednesday in New Delhi that cross-border attacks cannot be used as a reason to start talking to Pakistan.

At a town hall meeting, he said that there can’t be a normal relationship with Pakistan until “this policy of cross-border terrorism” is overturned.

He said that Pakistan was different from the rest of the area.

“The truth is that we can’t let terrorists become the norm. “We can’t let that be a reason for us to talk to Pakistan about it,” Jaishankar said.

“I think it’s a pretty obvious thing to say. If anything, I’m still a little confused about why we didn’t get here sooner. But we’re there now,” the minister said.
