The propaganda film ’72 Hoorain,’ which has been the subject of controversy since its teaser release, is planned for a special showing at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

JNU has a history of conflicts whenever a controversial film is exhibited on campus. With 72 Hoorain, the scenario might get much more complicated.

“This film makes a serious statement about terrorism,” ’72 Hoorain’ director Sanjay Puran adds, according to the Times of India.

“When you make a movie for the big screen, you want the movie trailer to be shown in theatres,” Sanjay said. The censor board has not approved the movies trailer. The censor board has given you till 27 July to make revisions to the trailer before it is published on 28 August.”

Previous movie screening conflicts revealed the polarising nature of hard-hitting films and the diverse emotions they provoke. Despite this, the creators of 72Hoorain have taken a hazardous but bold move by presenting the film on the university’s campus on Tuesday, July 4th.

Previously, renowned religious figure Maulana Sajid Rashid objected to the film 72 Hoorain, accusing the creators of misrepresenting religious teachings and demeaning religious precepts.

Concerning the showing of 72 Hoorain at JNU, the film’s creators said that it is an important opportunity for Kashmiri Muslims and other students to share their opinions and emotions to a film that digs into the brutal realities of terrorist camps.
