The Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championships were held in the Sher-E-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar over two days.

The event paid respect to the late Janab Farooq Ahmed, the revered creator of Taekwondo in Kashmir, and was conducted by the J&K Taekwondo Association under the auspices of the Taekwondo Federation of India. The competition, held under the banner “My Youth, My Pride,” drew over 700 contestants from different weight categories and age divisions from all districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Guest, Subash Chander Chhibber, Director of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, was joined by Rouf Ahmed Bhat, Sports Promoter and Under Secretary to the Government.

As the event’s Guest of Honour, Ishfaq Ahmed, former international football player and head coach of Kerala Blasters Football Club, was present. The event’s distinguished Special Guests were Hilal Ahmed and Shafiq Ahmed.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the participants and medalists of the Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championships,” Chhibber remarked. It’s motivating to see such excitement and love for the sport. I also like to thank the J&K Taekwondo Association for their unwavering efforts to promote Taekwondo in the Union Territory.”
