Srinagar: On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, the Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) has urged the people to cooperate fully with municipal and local body institutions in maintaining sanitation and cleanliness.

GCC, a civil society collective in Jammu and Kashmir comprised of academics, retired government officers, and other professionals, has applauded the decision of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to collect qurbani animal hides and skins from around the city, according to a news release. SMC has issued a list of vehicles, complete with registration number, name, and phone number of the driver, and that of Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LC&MA), which has issued a strict advisory against dumping of skins, hides, and offel, among other things, in water bodies and warned of strict action and fines against defaulters.

The GCC has urged the general people to obey the directions and warnings provided by these two organisations for the disposal of qurbani animal hides and skins, as well as offal debris, in order to preserve cleanliness and sanitation in the city and water bodies, particularly Dal Lake. Simultaneously, the GCC urged the Mayor, SMC Commissioner, and VC, LC& MA to ensure that their organisations’ plans are implemented fully and efficiently in order to meet the objectives and maintain good sanitation and cleanliness in the city, which is especially important in this hot weather.

Furthermore, the GCC has urged the Mayor of Jammu and Commissioner of JMC, Directors of Local Bodies of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, and all Heads of Panchayats in the UT to adopt similar measures in their respective areas of authority to ensure good cleanliness and sanitation during Eid. The GCC has also urged the Imams of mosques in the UT to impress upon the people the importance of providing full cooperation to the agencies in charge of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in their areas, particularly in the proper disposal of qurbani animals’ hides, skins, and offal, among other things.

The GCC has wished the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir Eid Mubarak and urged them to enjoy the celebration with simplicity and moderation, as well as to support their poor, needy, and less fortunate neighbours, relatives, and acquaintances.
