According to a statement released on Wednesday, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway will be closed to traffic on Friday in anticipation of the annual Amarnath yatra in the Kashmir valley.

Ramban DC Mussarat Islam issued an advise announcing a ‘no traffic day’ on NH-44, the sole all-weather route linking Kashmir with the rest of the nation. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has deemed the shutdown essential in order to carry out required maintenance and repairs. The yatra is scheduled to commence on July 1, thus the closure will hopefully facilitate the continuing preparations. Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar will serve as the starting point for the first group of pilgrims on June 30.
Overloaded or improperly fitted large motor vehicles are also forbidden from driving the route in order to alleviate the problems that commuters suffer, such as traffic congestion and dangerous situations in landslide-prone locations like Dalwas, Cafeteria Morh, and Nachlana. The police will take action against offenders. The deputy commissioner also updated everyone on the building project’s development. Ramban flyover’s last 1.06 km are almost finished. When finished, the flyover will reduce wait times for shoppers at Ramban market.
