On Monday, July 10th, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi convicted four members of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) for various offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the severe Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The convicted defendants were Danish Ansari, Aftab Alam, Imran Khan, and Obaid-Ur-Rehman.

The court found them guilty of plotting terrorist acts throughout the nation as part of a larger criminal conspiracy to wage war against the government. The IM members were found guilty by Special Judge Shailender Malik under many provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the severe Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

In September 2012, the NIA filed charges under the UAPA’s Sections 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terror act), 18A (organising terrorist camps), 18B (recruiting persons for terror act), and 20 (being member of terror organisation) and the IPC’s Section 121A (conspiracy to wage war against the government of India).
