Three casual workers were rescued and hospitalised this afternoon after attempting to self-immolate at Botanical Garden Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, according to government sources.

According to sources, terror seized the people in the Garden when three individuals attempted to self-immolate. “Onlookers intervened in time to save the trio and took them to SDH Kokernag, from where they were referred to GMC Anantnag,” they claimed.

Zakir Hussain Shakshaz (30), son of Ghulam Hassan Shakshaz, and Arshid Ahmad Itoo (33) son of Abdul Salaam, all of Bidder Kokernag, and another Hilal Ahmad Tantray, son of Mohammad Akbar Tantray, of Watnard, have been identified.

According to reports, the workers are Floriculture Department employees who went to extreme measures over an alleged transfer problem.
