According to Press Trust of India, two brothers were detained by the crime department of the Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday in connection with an alleged rape case in the Kathua area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Bittu Singh and Kewal Krishan have been named as the suspects in the arrests. They said the couple had been missing since 2017.

Officials in Jammu’s criminal branch said they were apprehended thanks to the efforts of a diligent squad formed specifically for this reason.

It all started when one Bali Ram filed a rape complaint with the Basohli police station. According to them, the matter was handed over to the Jammu crime branch for further investigation.

Substantial evidence, including a report from an overseas scientific laboratory (FSL), was gathered during the investigation, they said, and the opinion and allegations levelled against the brothers had been proven as a result. A charge sheet of the case was also reportedly presented in court.

Although Bittu and Kewel are still at large, authorities have filed a charge sheet against them under Section 512 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) since they are continually moving about the union area to avoid capture.

They said that the suspects had been turned over to the Basohli police station for further legal action.
