Kulgam, May 23: As part of ongoing efforts to rid society of the drug problem, police in Kulgam have detained two drug dealers and seized illegal goods and psychoactive substances from their hands.

During a patrol at Danew Bogund, a police party from police station Kulgam headed by SHO PS Kulgam stopped a suspicious individual who attempted to leave after seeing the police party but was skillfully caught by an observant police party. Officers were able to find 1.7 grammes of a drug similar to Charas in his possession during the search. Mohd Yousuf Khanday, a resident of Danew Bogund, has been identified as the man.

In a separate incident, a police team led by Incharge Police Post Frisal stopped a car with the licence plate JK02AU-0653 being driven by Kamran Gull Bhat, a resident of Hardu Akad Mattan, Anantnag, at a checkpoint set up near Peerbal. During checking, authorities discovered 12 bottles of illegal chemicals that resembled codeine phosphate and 11 kg of poppy straw in his hands.

Both of the suspects have been detained after being apprehended and sent to their respective police stations. Additionally, the vehicle used to carry out the crime was confiscated.

As a result, cases under the applicable parts of the law have been filed at the appropriate police stations, and further investigation has begun.

“The community is asked to come forward with any knowledge on drug dealing in their area. People who are caught selling drugs will face legal repercussions. Our steadfast activities against drug dealers should convince the locals that we are working to rid our society of the drug threat, according to the police.
