Kupwara, June 7: An ancient hideaway was raided by the police and the army in a combined operation in the Lolab region of the Kupwara district on Wednesday, and as a consequence, weapons and ammunition were found there.

Yougal Manhas, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, said that in response to specific information regarding an old hiding and the existence of certain rifles and ammunition in the General area of Kangur Nala, Tekipora, the 28 RR that was deployed in Lolab promptly initiated a search operation in the aforementioned area. Manhas stated that the 28 RR was searching for the alleged occupants of the old hideout.

In spite of extensive combing on June 6th, the search did not turn up any results. Despite this, the insider was pretty certain that there was a hideaway as well as firearms and ammo. As a result, more columns of RR under the command of the CO and Special Forces were inducted in the early hours of June 7th. The region was searched once again beginning from Kowut Top and continuing astride Kangur Nala, which led to the discovery and subsequent destruction of a hideaway along Kangur Nala,” he said.

The following items were located and recovered from the hideout: UBGL Russian Made 1, UBGL Grenade 1, Chinese Grenades Type1 6, Chinese Hand Grenade 2, Magzine AK47 2, 7.62mm AK 47 Rounds 60, Bino 1, and Pouch 1.

According to the SSP, the successful recovery has unquestionably prevented a suspected misadventure by terrorists and their malevolent efforts to disrupt the peace and tranquilly in the region.

According to Manhas, “a case has been registered under the arms act and further investigation has been set in motion.”
