World Environment Day was observed on June 5 in Srinagar with a conservation-themed event hosted by the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO).

Hundreds of students from Crescent Public School, Tibetan Public School, and Bilaliya Educational Institute participated in the first stage of the event, which was organised by NLCO in conjunction with the Private Schools Association. Participants met in the area of Gill Kadal to make a pact to protect our planet.

Students held a protest to kick off the event, displaying a variety of signs with environmental and water conservation themes. By promising to bring back a dry spring in the Gilsar area as part of Mission Ehsaas Phase-3, NLCO has shown its dedication to environmental protection. A few weeks ago, NLCO began this phase with the intention of revitalising Gilsar, a vital waterbody in the city. Waseem Raja “graced the occasion by kicking off the spring cleaning and rejuvenation process,” NLCO stated in a statement.

“During the second stage, NLCO received backing from officials, environmentalists, eco-warriors, and concerned residents. They all spoke out in support of seeing Mission Ehsaas through to completion, “reiterating the importance of revitalising and conserving our water bodies,” the statement said.
