According to CNN, a 76-year-old lady who had been pronounced dead at a hospital in Babahoyo, Ecuador was discovered to be alive and pounding on her coffin at her own wake.

Her left hand was banging on the coffin as I raised it, and her pulse was racing. Video of her son Gilberto Barbera saying, “We called 911 to bring her here to the hospital” was shared online.

On camera, bystanders patiently waited for the arrival of emergency personnel to transport Montoya, 76, back to the hospital.

The Ministry of Public Health has announced that a state inquiry has begun.

The report states that the lady was taken to the hospital on Friday, perhaps due to a stroke and cardiac arrest, and that the on-duty physician deemed her dead when she did not react to resuscitation efforts.

The camera then pans to her hospital identification badges and her son, who is shown calling for an ambulance.

The woman’s full name, Bella Yolanda Montoya Castro, has been widely reported to match the initials “B.Y.M.C.” used in the announcement released by Ecuador’s Health Ministry on Sunday.

At the same Babahoyo hospital that pronounced her dead, it was reported that Montoya was in critical care. Nobody knows how she is doing right now.

CNN’s requests for comment to the hospital have gone unanswered.

When the guy filming subsequently inquired who the lady was, someone said, “Bella Yolanda.”

The ministry went on to add that they established a national technical committee in conjunction with the Health Services Quality Assurance Agency “to initiate a medical audit to establish responsibilities for the alleged confirmation of death.”
