Several passengers on a flight from Delhi to Sydney on Air India were injured Tuesday due to extreme turbulence, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said today in New Delhi.

On Tuesday, May 16th, an incident occurred on board, and upon landing in Sydney, Australia, the wounded passengers were given medical attention. The DGCA confirmed that there were no medical emergencies involving any of the passengers.

“Air India B787-800 aircraft VT-ANY experienced strong turbulence while flying flight AI-302 (Delhi-Sydney). Seven passengers complained of minor injuries sustained in flight, DGCA revealed.

When passengers were wounded during takeoff or landing, the cabin staff provided immediate medical attention.

The cabin staff administered first aid with the help of a doctor and a nurse who were also passengers, using supplies from the plane’s first aid bag, according to the aviation authority.

Passengers at the Sydney airport reported many injuries due to the turbulence, prompting the airport manager to provide medical help.

Only three of Air India’s arriving passengers in Sydney actually used the medical care that was provided for them by the airport manager. “No emergency room visit was necessary,” the DGCA said.

Air India has so far said nothing about the event.

A passenger on an Air-India aircraft from Nagpur to Mumbai was bitten by a scorpion earlier this month. Although live birds and rodents have been discovered on board before, this is the first time a passenger has been stung by a scorpion.

“On April 23, 2023, there was a very unusual and unfortunate incident in which a scorpion stung a passenger on board our flight AI 630,” an Air India representative stated.

Soon after the aircraft arrived, medical aid was given to the woman, and she was taken to the hospital. The airport doctor saw to the passenger as soon as the plane touched down, and after receiving treatment at the hospital, he or she was released.

Our crew performed a thorough check in accordance with established procedures, located the scorpion, and then properly fumigated the plane. Air India expressed deep sorrow for the passenger’s suffering and inconvenience.
