Anantnag, December 23: The South Kashmir State Tax Department’s Enforcement Branch, overseen by Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes Shahnawaz Shah, stepped up enforcement efforts across the region.

The agency regularly conducts stepped-up enforcement operations in all four districts of South Kashmir to verify that dealers, merchants, and transporters are complying with GST laws.

During the enforcement efforts, the department fined dealers and merchants who transported goods against the GST Act Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 60,000 for failing to provide GST invoices this week. They were also instructed to refrain from repeating these actions in the future.

The department’s STO Inspectors and Sub Inspectors were instructed by the Deputy Commissioner to maintain vigilance and stop any kind of tax evasion.

He went on to say that these kinds of enforcement actions will be conducted often and that any dealer or transporter discovered to be participating in them would face severe consequences under the GST legislation.
