Top Kashmir pulmonologist warns of winter illnesses, advises people to take precautions

October 28, Srinagar: Prominent pulmonologist and Head of the Department (HoD) at CD Hospital, Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah, gave advice to the public on Saturday on preventive measures against wintertime ailments.

Speaking outside the Department of Neurology Super Speciality Hospital Srinagar’s World Stroke Day event, Dr. Shah stressed the need for pneumococcal and influenza vaccines for adults, the elderly, and children, particularly those with COPD.

“Some vaccinations for children are only available in European countries, but parents can go for the influenza vaccine for their children here,” he said.

He advised COPD sufferers to see a doctor before winter arrives since they have exacerbations of their condition during this season.

The flu shot is crucial for patients since other illnesses are also present in the winter air. Pneumococcal and influenza vaccinations are very beneficial to humans. “Vaccination is recommended for individuals who have a high risk of contracting bacterial pneumonia,” Dr. Shah said.
